There’s always that one photo you take, look at the back of the camera and you just have to smile, fistpump and dance a jig in your head.
I found now my experience is building, i can get the shots I want quicker, but sometimes you just want even more.
You have an idea in your head. You go through your planning stages you do your studio or location shoot. By the time you’ve done, you will have either a portrait your happy with, or not. When it’s not, you feel down, withdrawn, gonna throw it all away.
When you get the shot you want your on top of the world, can’t wait for the edit, and are pushing yourself towards the next shoot that will be bigger and better. Nothing can stop you.
And that is the Addiction, the want, the feeling you get when you get it right, and also the withdrawals of not having a great shoot sometimes.
I’ve been both ends of this scale over the past few years, and some people more often than not.
I want to show you a landmark image for me. Mostly because for me it was the first time i did everything on my lonesome. From knowing what i wanted to do, to final edit.
I call it a landmark image, as it was seriously stepping outside my comfort zone at the time and pushing my own limits.
You do get those days and shoots, where thing’s don’t click. Rather than receding back into your shell, just sit back a little and think about it. Think about the basics, what you were trying to achieve and where it didn’t quite gel for you.
Then what you do is practice.
practice, practice, practice.
If you persevere it will happen. I know people harp on about working smart, but along with that, you still need to work hard. Get the basics right, and the rest will come.
This applies to any type, style, genre of photography.
I work hard, and do small daily tasks to keep my skills sharp, and to improve on ones i know are lacking.
I will be doing a series of blog posts throughout next year, where i will pick one photo i’m happy with, and tell you why i’m happy with it, the work that went into creating it, along with some setup information, so you can try things yourself.
In the end, you will get your shot, you will get your fix, and you can relax…..until the next time.
