In these interesting and difficult times, it is difficult to stay inspired. Here are a few things you can do to help you keep the ideas and inspiration flowing.

Listening to music:

I love listening to music, especially when i’m feeling uninspired. Listening to your favourite music, really listening to the lyrics can help you form ideas and images in your head. Is there any way you can make images from them?

Listening to new music can help inspire you in different ways, since you won’t have any preconceived ideas.

Listening to film soundtracks is also interesting, and you could look at creating a series of work based on how it made you feel.

Pinterest:

There is a world of inspiration on pinterest, and it can usually feel a little overwhelming with the amount of different subjects and pins it gives you.

The best way is to start making a board of something your drawn to, and start pinning a few interesting websites and images. Give it half an hour or so and then have a look through your board to see what sort of themes, colours and looks are present. Now start thinking about how to incorporate it into your own work.

Instagram:

Follow people you like and admire on instagram. Get into the habit of saving the images you really like, so you can go back to them easily. Start posting your own images. It’s sometimes good to go back and see what you’ve done previously.

Watch a film or TV series:

Watch some films. While you are in a position to do this a lot more than usual, watch something. Some of your favourite movies, something in a new genre you’ve not considered before. Watch the cinematics, colour grading and lighting. Make some notes about the film and start looking at creating a series of photos based on the film. Tell a story, or build a single image idea that encompasses the story.

Read some books:

Start getting your head into a book, even an audiobook. Think about how the characters are built up. Think about how the scenes are built up with words, and start imagining how you could do that with the locations and props at your disposal.

I hope these little bits of information help you with your next shoot, and help you stay inspired to shoot, and produce more amazing ideas.
